Paulin Bonnet

French ceramicist, born in 1994, in Provence. Currently living and working in Marseille, South of France.

“My practice unfolds through a dialogue between living and inert matter, exploring biological cycles of transformation that resonate with intimate experience. My research engages with notions of care, memory, trauma or resilience.

Through a sensitive approach to material, I shape porous forms inspired by growth, regeneration, decline, and mutation within the living world, human and non-human alike. I am drawn to the silent transformations that occur within things. Emptiness and cavities become spaces of potential, waiting to be (re)activated.

Born from the slow decomposition of natural elements, clay becomes ceramic through fire: in this transmutation, organic components burn away, leaving a stable, mineral body. It is within this tension between the organic and the mineral that I anchor my experiments.

I conceive my sculptures as “embodied still lifes”. Color, pattern, and surface effects allow life to emerge where it seems to have withdrawn. I develop personal glaze recipes, including my “gloop” : a viscous, glossy material modeled like clay, mimicking molten glass overflowing onto matte surfaces. These ambiguous growth, suspended between liquid and solid, suggest an inner movement, a transformation still in progress.”

1994年、プロヴァンス生まれのフランス人現代陶芸家。
フランス南部、マルセイユ在住。

「私の制作は、生きているものと無生物との対話から展開し、個人的な体験と共鳴する生物学的な変容の循環を探求している。心のケア、記憶、トラウマ、そしてレジリエンス（逆境に立ち向かう強さ）といった概念が、私のリサーチの中心にある。
素材に対する繊細なアプローチを通して、人間を含む生物・非生物の世界における成長、再生、衰退、変異から着想を得た多孔質なフォルムを形づくる。私は、物質の内部で静かに起こる変化に惹かれている。空洞や空隙は、再び活性化されるのを待つ可能性の場となる。
自然要素がゆっくりと分解される過程から生まれる粘土は、火を通して陶器へと変容する。この転換の中で有機的な要素は焼失し、安定した鉱物的な「身体」が残る。私は、この有機と鉱物のあいだに生じる緊張関係の中に、自身の実験を位置づけている。
私の彫刻は「転生された静物（インカーネイテッド・スティルライフ）」として構想されている。色彩やパターン、表面効果によって、すでに失われたかのように見える場所に再び生命を立ち上がらせる。私は独自の釉薬レシピを開発しており、そのひとつである「グループ（gloop）」は、粘性のある光沢素材で、粘土のように成形され、マットな表面へと溶け出すガラスを模倣している。液体と固体のあいだに宙づりになったこの曖昧な増殖体は、内側で今なお進行中の変容、内的な動きを示唆している。」
